Paris, May 5, 2021 — HCVC announces that Cyril Abiteboul is joining its team as a Venture Partner on its next fund dedicated to Hardtech.

With over 20 years of experience in the automotive industry, Cyril will bring his expertise with high-performance technologies developed for sports and racing cars to support the next generation of founders building hardtech companies.

Cyril was previously the youngest-ever Team Principal appointed at a Formula One team at age 35. In 2016, he led the return of Renault in Formula 1 and enabled the team to score several podiums during the 2020 season (see Netflix’s Drive to Survive Show). In January, Cyril left Groupe Renault after running Formula One operations for 5 years.

Cyril Abiteboul says, “I’m quite excited to bring my experience of sourcing and developing new technologies as well as innovative practices to the next generation of founders and inventors. I’m also thrilled to be joining one of the most exciting venture capital firms investing in breakthrough technologies”.

HCVC’s Founder and Managing Partner, Alexis Houssou commented: “We’re very proud to welcome Cyril to our team and can’t wait to work with him to support founders in building the future of mobility. Cyril is not only an engineer at heart, he’s also someone with world-class experience in fields that are extremely relevant to HCVC and our portfolio companies”.

Joining HCVC’s team as a Venture Partner, Cyril will work on its upcoming fund and will participate in new investments as well as support the portfolio with his expertise in the automotive and deeptech sectors. In the meantime, HCVC is still actively investing its current $50M early-stage fund and will announce several exciting new investments soon, so stay tuned!
